Soundproofing a wooden floor on joists without raising the floor level

I need to insulate a bedroom floor, which is wood onto joists. The finished floor is going to be 22mm solid oak planks which due to the size of the room I am going to need to fix. either by pin or maybe glue. I can afford to raise the floor by 22mm if it is thought that a sub floor is advisable but all the systems I have seen have a 22mm floor fixed to the joists then a 22mm floating floor on some sort of sound proof matting and then the final floor level. This would raise the floor higher than I would like. Is there any suggestions?

    If it is impact noise you are concerned with the floor surface has to be isolated from the base floor and surrounding walls so that it is 'floating'. If you have only 44mm overall height to from the top of the joists then I suggest the following.

    1. Install 100mm of AMW100 Acoustic Mineral Wool loosely fitted between the joists

    2. Screw down 18mm of moisture resistant t&g flooring grade chipboard onto the joists ensuring the joints are tightly fitted and there are no gaps around the perimeter. If necessary, seal with our flexible Acoustic Sealant

    3. Overlay the floor with our 4.2mm thick Acoustic Laminate Underlay with the joints butted and sealed with our Aluminium Jointing Tape. The insulation should be installed wall to wall.

    4. Install the new flooring but with all joints glued. Do not use any mechanical fixings! The expansion gap around the edges can be filled with our flexible Acoustic Sealant.

    5. If skirting boards are to be fitted there should be a 1mm gap between the bottom of them and the floor surface. This gap does not need to be filled with sealant.

    Usually a thicker resilient insulation is used to isolate floating floors but due to the thickness restraints that you have, the Acoustic Laminate Underlay is the only alternative you can consider. Click the following link for more information on this

    This system will also improve airborne noise insulation but we are unable to say by how much because this make-up has not been tested.
