Dj recording studio

DJ in the mix & in need of a soundproof recording studio... how can we soundproof a brick garage that has a corrigated asbestos roof so the neighbours can't hear our tunes in the still of the night?

This is a difficult one and will depend on the amount of ceiling height you have to play with and if it is a pitched or flat roof. If it is a pitched roof then 50mm AMW50 should be glued between the rafters then a double layer of 12.5mm Acoustic Plasterboard screwed to the rafters. If a joisted ceiling has not been installed previously then one should be installed now and soundproofed in the same manner as our Studio Ceiling System. If at all possible, the top of the joists should also be boarded out with 18mm t&g moisture resistant chipboard flooring.

With flat roofs I suspect it will not be possible to achieve the same level of soundproofing and the only option you will have is to install the Studio Ceiling System already mentioned.

You will also have to consider installing sound absorption within the studio once the soundproofing has been completed to reduce reverberation and this will also help reduce sound from being heard outside the room. For more information on studio sound absorption, click the following link
