Fibreboard underlay for laminate

I have a double layer of 5mm fibreboard under my laminate flooring (fitted in 2002) - could this be considered to be as effective as a cheap carpet and underlay in terms of noise reduction?

It is unlikely that the fibreboard will be as efficient as carpet at reducing impact noise because it is not that resilient. For best results, our 15mm QuietFloor Plus should be used. Click the following link for more information on this product
