Hello,
Please could you review the proposal below from our builder on the products they propose to use to sound proof a party wall. I would like to understand how your products compare to the solution below and what your recommendations are.
Soundproofing of the larger section of the party wall
The existing skirting’s and cornicing will be removed and the wall surface cleaned. 50mm x 50mm tannilized timber batons will be drilled and fixed to the party wall at 600mm centres’ Rockwool RWA 45 acoustic insulation will be fitted in between these timber studs .Soundblock plaster board will be screw fixed to the studs, joints taped and finished with a plaster skim. Once dry the skirting’s and cornice will be reinstated.
Many thanks

What your builder has suggested will help reduce noise but I think you would be disappointed with the results. For best results there should be more mass and the new wall completely decoupled from the original. If 75 x 50mm studs are installed 25mm away from the existing wall then loosely infilled with 100mm of the 45kg mineral wool. No noggins should be used instead use our 15mm deep Resilient Bars that re screwed across the uprights at 600mm centres from floor to ceiling. A double layer of SoundBlock or alternative 12.5mm high density plasterboard should then be screwed to the bars with our 2mm SBM5 Soundproofing Mat sandwiched between them.
The above treatment is our Studio Wall System and takes up about 140mm of space so not too much and will give you a much more satisfactory result and installed using the same principles of a double stud wall system as described on our web site. Click the following link for more info on this

You will also have to make sure there will be no flanking noise that creep round the new wall. Details of how this can be addressed is also detailed from the above link.
