In your 'bronze' floor solution, why is the SoundBlock Membrane laced between the layers of acoustic mineral wool? Is it to support the weight of the second layer? I have some pipes running cut into notches in the joists so it would be easier for me to lay the membrane over the top of everything.
Do you think the combination of the bronze solution and the 'light laminate solution' on top will provide good insulation against foot fall noise with a laminate final floor finish? Would I really need 2 layers of SMB5 matt with the bronze solution below?
Finally, I noticed in one article a suggestion to remove floor noggins between joists to improve sound insulation - is that safe - I mean don't they provide part of the structural strength of the floor, to stop joists from twisting?

The SoundBlocker membrane is sandwiched between sound absorbing mineral wool to act as a sound blocker as well as a sound absorber and works best when fitted as detailed in our Bronze system. It does not matter what height the Membrane is fixed so can be on top of any pipes as long as there is sufficient room to fix the AMW50 Acoustic Mineral Wool above and below the Membrane.
SBM5 Soundproofing Mat helps reduce airborne noise and so, to a degree, the airborne element of impact noise so would be a worthwhile addition and will enhance the reduction of impact noise when used in addition to the Light Laminate solution.
Floor noggins are initially installed to ensure the joists do not twist after installation but with floors that have been in for many years, I think the noggins can be removed because the joists will have stabilised by then. When noggins are removed it immediately improves the sound insulation of a floor.
