silly I’m unsure

How can I convert my room so I can play music in it without annoying the Neighbours?

I want to convert a room in my flat into a music practice room and possibly some recording and don't want to annoy my neighbours. I know that a room within a room is best but do not know waht is involved. Can you help?

The following two links to web pages on our web site should help you

    http://www.soundservice.co.uk/sound_i...

A brief description of what is required follows.

    1. Install a double layer of SoundBlocker Quilt between the floor joists, refit the floor then overlay with a double layer of 2mm SBM5 Soundproofing Mat.

    2. Screw a 12.5mm layer of Acoustic Plasterboard to the existing ceiling with our 1mm SoundBlocker Membrane sandwiched between.

    3. Install triple glazing to window using different thicknesses of glass irregularly spaced. One of the panes should be laminated.

    4. Build a 'room within a room' with timber stud installed 25mm away from existing walls and not touching the ceiling.

    5. Independent ceiling joists should be suspended from the stud walls of suitable dimensions to take the weight of plasterboard, membrane and AMW100 Acoustic Mineral Wool and at least 25mm below the existing ceiling.

    6. Infill stud walls and new ceiling with 100mm of AMW100 and secure to ceiling with wire netting

    7. Screw Resilient Bars at 400mm centres across ceiling joists and 600mm centres from floor to ceiling on walls.

    8. Fix a double layer of 12.5mm Acoustic Plasterboard to bars with SoundBlocker Membrane sandwiched between the ceiling panels

    9. Repeat with walls but use 2mm SBM5 sandwiched between the panels instead.

    10. Lay our 10mm R10 resilient layer over the floor surface then install QuietBoard Acoustic t&g Flooring on top with the joints glued.

    11. Fit heavy MDF shutters with Acoustaseal Tape to seal the shutters when closed. Fit 25mm of SA25FRSA acoustic foam to the inside of the shutters.

    12. Install a 'double door' entry system to the room using one hour fire doors fitted with our Acoustic Doorseal kits.

    13. Carpet floor and install base traps and sound absorption as required to reduce reveberation of sound within the soundproof room.
