How can we build a soundproof studio for a children's hospice?
Hi,
We've recently been given a grant to build a soundproof studio for the children at our hospice to create their own movies and sound recordings but we're wondering whats the best way to do this on a relatively small budget. We'll need to build an existing building or erect a structure (maybe something like a summer house) and have to wire it, etc but really would like to know what the best way to this and to soundproof it.
Thanks

I’m
happy
I would start by having a read of this article http://www.soundservice.co.uk/soundpr...
We would strongly advise against trying to soundproof a shed as the walls are just not think enough. -

Thank you very much.
I was wondering what you would suggest as an alternative on a small budget?
Thanks

I am afraid you cannot effectivley soundproof a a shed or outhouse for anything less than the solution we mention. What do you mean by small budget?

Thanks.
We don't currently have an outbuilding or shed that we could use but it was suggested that we could buy something similar to a summerhouse and soundproof this, however, if we are building from scratch we were wondering what other possible solutions there could be?
Whatever we build we will need to wire it, soundproof it, and make it wheelchair accessible. So any ideas you've got would be really appreciated.
The budget to build it from scratch and fit it out is looking to be under £10,000 from a grant that we received particularly for this project.

I doubt the soundproofing materials would cost you £10k but the building alone might!
In terms of reducing noise, your first concern should be building a fixed concrete structure that is going to have a fighting chance of blocking sound. You might be able to but a cheap wood shed but then you could spend nearly all the budget on trying to stop the sound leaking.
If you imagine sound is like water and the building is like the hull of a ship. Which is stronger and better insulated, wood or brick? -
