silly I’m unsure

How do I soundproof a room in my house for drum noise?

I am a drummer looking to completely sound proof a room in my house, so that the rest of house cannot hear. I have looked at your website, and can see you have a number of solutions to solve this. I obviously would like to do it as cheap as i can, but i do realise there is always heavy cost when it comes to things of this nature.

Here is the details to my room,

Below Ground, with two small windows. Semi-Detached. Ceiling is as important as walls, as upstairs is a family room. Size of room is approx 360cm x 392cm.

I have looked at the studio wedge tiles and the egg box foam, how do you feel about this? Do you think that it would be sufficient for what i want?

Also with the foam tiles, are they easy to install? and can they be used on a ceiling?

If you could give me a rough price for how much it would be, and if you suggest a solution which requires you to install it. Could you then provide the price for the labour?

Many Thanks

For best results you will have to build a room within a room using a system similar to our Studio Wall System and our Studio Ceiling System. Click the following links for more info on these

Also, have a look at our articles on the subject by clicking the following links

From these you will find that a bit more will be required than just sound absorption. Sound absorption will be installed once the room has been soundproofed as well as it can be.

You do not give me the room height but if you install the Studio Ceiling System it will reduce the height by about 30mm. With the installation of the Studio Wall System, the overall dimensions of the room will be reduced to about 3.31m x 3.63m and the cost of the soundproofing the walls and ceiling will be around £34.00 sq mtr plus VAT.

Once the room has been treated with the Studio systems, you should install a floating floor using our 10mm R10 resilient insulation with 18mm high density QuietBoard acoustic flooring on top. This floor should also be carpeted.

Now you can consider sound absorption and you will require Acoustic Corner Traps and Cubes to absorb bass noise that accumulates in those areas and thick 73mm Egg Box Foam installed randomly over the walls and ceiling. As a general rule of thumb, you will require enough sound absorption equal the the floor area of the room to start then add more if necessary.

All of this is DIYable for competent people or we may be able to put you in touch with an installer depending on your location.
