How to reduce DJ and bass noise in a room

Hi, i'm wanting to reduce the sound that travels through my floor and was wondering what you could recommend. I’m a dj so the bass/low frequency seems to be the problem. It's for a new build upstairs extension (2 storey).

I've got sound board on the walls and ceiling plaster skim finsih. 200 mm fire proof mineral wool in the loft above, and 100 mm of mineral wool underneath the upstairs 22 mm chip board floor.

The upstairs room size (music room) is 7.7 m long and 2.7 m wide. Underneath is a garage and utility room which are divided by a 300 mm insulated wall & fire door. The garage is 5 m long and the utility room is 2.4 m long. The garage also has a 42mm insulated door.So upstairs i was wanting to have my music source above the utility room ceiling (alos sound board) (2.4 x 2.7 m) rather than the hollow garage below.

What is the best method to stop my music and bass levels travelling into the upstairs floor and sounding loud in the garage area which could be heard outside?

Also some places I’ve read suggest wooden flooring to finish the room, would a carpet finish not be better so that there isn’t as much echo in the room

Low frequency noise is always the most difficult to soundproof and as well as travelling through floors, it will also flank through low density block walls such as found in most buildings with cavity walls. If this proves to be a problem in your case, our Thin Wall Soundproofing System will help.

The best method of low frequency sound control through floors and ceilings is to install 100mm of AMW100 Acoustic Mineral Wool followed by a 2mm layer of SBM5 Soundproofing Mat which should be lapped up the sides of the joists then stapled in position. Another layer of AMW100 is then placed on top. Once the floorboards have been screwed back down, a floating floor using our R10 system should be installed that will help reduce structural borne noise travelling through the floor. More information including a link to installation instructions can be found by clicking on the following link

With ceilings, our Thin Ceiling System can be installed using the double layer of SoundBlocker Membrane. The following link will give you more information on this

Sound absorption within the room will also be essential and should start with carpeting the floor with a good quality deep pile carpet. The sound absorption should include bass traps in the corners. More information on the sound absorption we can offer can be found by clicking the next link
