How can I reduce noise from aircrafts - I need soundproofing

Dear Sir/Madam,

I was hoping you might be able to give me some advice on which would be the most suitable material for me. I have low flying aircraft above my house. They are not low enough to cause any vibrations, just really annoying noise. I am only really bothered by the noise at nightime in the upstairs bedroom. It is a 1930s house with thermal insulation and boards installed in the attic above the bedroom, and double glazed windows. I was thinking of putting in secondary glazing, and putting something above the boards in the attic to reduce the noise coming through the ceiling. Which material would be the best to use?

Thanks in advance,

If the rafters in the loft are exposed, you can infill between them with AMW Acoustic Mineral Wool of appropriate thickness up to a maximum of 100mm (we offer 50mm, 75mm and 100mm) Then screw a double layer of 12.5mm high density Acoustic Plasterboard to the joists. For an enhanced sound insulation, our SoundBlocker Membrane can be sandwiched between the layers.

With regard to your windows, normal double glazing will not offer the best sound insulation and for best results, triple glazing should be considered using a thicker pane of glass installed as a secondary glazing panel on the inside of your window. Any double glazing specialist should be able to help you with that. Alternatively, you can make up hinged internal shutters or if a small window, a sound blocking window plug lined on one side with sound absorbing material.
