In an old house does noise pass down a beam?
We have a semi detached 19th century house. The ceiling beams run through our house and our neighbour's. We are needing to sound insulate the wall between us as he has extended upstairs and is very noisy. Our worry is that even if we insulate the wall to the max the sound will still travel across through the beams. Is that possible? Thanks,

At present most of your noise nuisance is probably coming directly through your wall with a small amount flanking along the common beams. After effectively soundproofing the wall it is possible that noise will still be transmitted along common beams but we think it is unlikely to be disturbing. -
