Soundproofing solution for terrace house

Hi, I live in a terrace house and need a soundproofing solution to deal with slamming doors and loud footsteps from next door. I do not suffer from any music, loud talking or TVs - just the occasional loud bang and stomping which is leading to a lot of stress.

There is a brick partition wall that I would like to soundproof. Most of the noise is in our living room, the next door neighbours front door is next to the partition wall and is the cause of most of the noise. I have asked for them to stop slamming it but it's still annoying me. In this particular area (up to where the wall meets the chimney breast) I was thinking of installing your studio system to maximise noise reduction.

We also have bare floorboards in the room which I’m sure isn’t helping the situation. On the rest of the party wall I was planning to install your thin wall system. The total area that I need to soundproof is approximately 25 sq metres.
What recommendation do you have for me and do you think that the noise can be combated following the installation of a soundproofing system?

Also, There are a number old chimney breasts in the property that I was planning to soundproof around as they are thick solid brick - is this an acceptable approach or do they also need to be covered?

  • Loud impact noise such as slamming doors is noise that radiates through the fabric of the building so will skirt round party walls as flanking noise so it is unlikely that the noise can be treated with additional soundproofing. You have already identified our Studio Wall System as the most efficient way of dealing with noise through a wall and for best results, chimney breasts should be soundproofed as well.

It may be better for you (and cheaper) to get your neighbours to fit an automatic door closer that can be adjusted to close the door slowly and thus eliminate any noise from slamming. Have a chat with them and see if they will let you buy and install a door closer onto their door.

Thanks. The main problem now is the heavy footfal that is audeable from our living room and eminating from their hallway. It's rented accommodation so I doubt that they have decent underlay or very thick carpet. Do you think that the installation of a sound deadening underlay would help the situation at all?

    Many thanks.

  • Our 10mm A10 Acoustic Underlay for carpets is the best we can supply that will absorb impact noise such as that generated by footfalls. Click the following link for more information on this http://www.soundservice.co.uk/Acousti.... Current prices are also on our web site
