Hi,
I live in an 60's maisonette, I get airborn noise from above i.e. talking, shouting, babies crying, washing machines, baths filling up etc. and impact noise (kids running around)
The often loudest noises are squeaky floor boards.
Currently there is nothing between my cieling and their floor boards but air (which should be illegal).
I'm thinking about sound proofing, but am worried about wasting money if it does'nt work, I'm sure it will work for airborn noise but how good is it for loud squeaks?
I have a good hieght ceiling and could afford to lose 3' possibly even 5' if it will give me back my sanity
Thanks
Marc

Squeaking Floorboards are best addressed at source by screwing them down securely but if not possible, the following will help. The tops of the windows will detrmine how much ceiling height you can lose but assuming you can lose as much as you have indicated, the best solution will be to overlay the existing ceiling with another layer of 15mm high density Acoustic Plasterboard then install a new set of joists as low down as you can without compromising the required minimum ceiling heights as required by Building Control. Ensure the new joists are of adequate dimensions to support the new ceiling then overlay with 100mm of AMW100 Acoustic Mineral Wool that can be rested on top of the joists. To finish off, screw a double layer of 12.5mm Acoustic Plasterboard to the joists with our 1mm SoundBlocker Membrane sandwiched between the panels. Now enjoy your quieter environment. -
