studiowall or double stud acoustic quilt wall

Hi Soundservice

I live in a new build flat, from 1998.

I have a party wall composed of two 12.5mm layers of plasterboard, metal stud and insulation, attached to concrete blocks.
The floor is concrete, 4inches thick, with laminate over the top. The ceiling is floating plasterboard attached to concrete.

The adjoining neighbours enjoy amplified bass oriented music. At 1m from the wall, and C-weighted setting, an increase of 25 - 30 dBC is observed when the music is playing.

I want to build a separate floating wall, prepared to lose approx 15 - 20 cm of current room to achieve maximum sound attentuation.

Would you advise to go for the StudioWall system, several layers of acoustic quilt, substituted for 100mm AMW, or the double stud wall Part E system, with an additional layer of Acoustic Quilt?

DO I need to uprate the ceiling and floor too? I am looking for maximum attenuation. ANy advice appreciated.

regards
B

If you only have 15-20cm of space to use I think the best solution for you to reduce the noise nuisance is our Studio Wall System constructed about 25mm away from the existing wall. Replacing the usual 100mm of AMW100 acoustic mineral wool with several layers of our SoundBlocker Quilt will give an improved result. The double stud Part E system would be better but may take up more space than the 20cm you have if properly installed and is likely to be 27cm using 75mm stud.

The Studio Wall System should be installed from the concrete structural floor to the underside of the structural concrete ceiling above. As long as this is done, additional work to ceilings and floors should not be necessary.
